Kloster Maulbronn: Monastery of the year 2019
The Award
Every year the State Palaces and Gardens of Baden-Württemberg deal with the question: Who will get the title “Monument of the Year”? With this award, the State Palaces and Gardens would like to focus attention on monuments that have developed in a special way in terms of their presentation and the range of visitors they offer, or that are celebrating significant anniversaries. The award is celebrated with a festival for the public.
The monastery of the year 2019
In the idyllic rural Kraichgau, monks founded their monastery well over 800 years ago. Maulbronn was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO 25 years ago: as the best preserved medieval monastery of the Cistercians north of the Alps. And you can feel this peculiarity at every turn. There is hardly any other place where top-class masterpieces of medieval art and architecture are so combined with the surrounding area. This is celebrated by the State Palaces and Gardens of Baden-Württemberg and elevated Maulbronn Monastery to "Monastery of the Year 2019".
